The news follows an announcement the renowned musician and Mount Gambier resident will perform for American president Barack Obama at the White House later this month to celebrate International Jazz Day.

“I have never been to the White House, this is very exciting for me to do something I have never done and it is a great honour,” Mr Morrison said.

“They only chose one person from Australia to perform and they chose me, which I am thrilled about.

“Not to blow my own trumpet, but at this stage in my career, having been on the road for nearly 40 years … it is quite rare these days to get a unique, new opportunity.”

However, before he gets to the White House, James and a group of students from the James Morrison Academy will join business and local government leaders who will fly out tonight to South Australia’s sister state Shandong province in China – home to more than 91 million people.
