CENTRAL North Zone selectors have come up with two talented cricket squads that will need further pruning before they tackle the Country Championships in October.

They might be from opposite ends of the CNZ but Nowendoc’s Matilda Lewis (left) and Singleton’s Josephine Pearce (right) were padded up and ready to bat for a spot in the CNZ Under 15 squad at Farrer on Saturday. Photo: Barry Smith 020416BSC02

Tamworth Junior Cricket Association president Peter Graham, also an assistant coach to Cricket NSW CNZ Academy head coach Luke Knight, said they had good numbers trial.

“Had 14 Under 15s there and 13 Under 18s. Some good talent too. The 15s look like being really strong. They had a game and then a net session with the 18s. The 18s were good too.”

Luke Knight heads the CNZ Academy with Graham and Leanne Browne his assistants.

Former Country wicketkeeper and top order bat Terry Browne was also on hand Sunday to help select squads.

“We’ve named the 18s while the 15s will have a couple of extras going along as development players,” Graham said.

“We can build them up for the following season as well.”
